Question from Amanda:
How do you feel about people jumping in the race after Dennis Moore announced his retirement?
John's Answer:
Amanda,
That is a timely question.  I will say that I will have the courage & leadership to stand up for Kansans, regardless of who the opponent is.  I think that the word "opportunist" probably has a place in the lexicon to describe those who jumped in after Dennis opted out.  I would rather have someone who can make a tough decision and follow-through than an individual or individuals who "wait" for the right moment.  I will not forget that I will be a servant of the people.  I am the only candidate who is openly term-limiting himself at the get-go.

I hope this answers your question.
Thank you.
John

Question asked by Jerry Brockhaus:
Who will you be running against?
John's answer:
I am running in the primary against Patricia Lightner and Daniel Gilyeat.  After the primary the race will be against incumbent Dennis Moore (D)

Question asked:
You don't appear to have a political background.
What makes you think you would be a good congressman?
John's answer:
While it is true that I have no political elected experience, I would counter that I have a tremendous amount of "Real World" experience that will be critical in Washington DC.  I have a 20 year work history with a serious understanding of health care policy and problem solving.  I have served in the USAFR and have a great appreciation and understanding of the Defense issues facing our country. I also have done extensive research on our tax policy/code and will not be afraid to make our tax system simpler and fairer for everyone.
Having a family with 6 children (2 of whom are in college) makes me uniquely qualified to talk about education issues and family issues.  I have served on school boards/PTA and have coached and been involved in community and civic events.  So if you are a not a fan of what the "experience" in Washington has accomplished, you should be very excited about me and my different approach.

Question from Cathy:
Why do you support the Fair Tax? How likely is it that it will eventually pass or is it just wishful thinking on the politician's part?
John's Answer:
Cathy,

Thanks for your question.  I am a strong supporter of the FairTax for many reasons.  I have a background in economics, and this has been an area of interest for sometime.  The FairTax (a well-crafted retail sales tax on all goods & services) would replace the current pay-roll taxes (medicare & ssi) along with the income tax.  Importantly, it would also do away with the capital gains tax & the corporate income tax as well as inheritance taxes. A bold move such as this would make the USA the most growth oriented nation on the planet!

Fundamentally the FairTax would take the "social-engineering" out of the hands of politicians.  Think about it, an almost 70,000 page IRS structure replaced with a 150 page FairTax bill?

Does this have a chance?  I believe very much so.  John Linder (GA-7) will be able to introduce this bill in a Republican led chamber of the 112th Congress & I will vote Yea!
The FairTax will help America to grow out of many of the current problems facing her by allowing her citizens to succeed!
Thanks again for your question!

Question from Rodney Boone:
What is your position on abortion?
John's Answer:
I am a pro-life candidate for Kansas-3.  I have 6 children ranging in age from 6-20. I believe in life from conception to natural death.
Thanks for your question.
John

Question asked:
John, I've served in the US Navy and I'm a nuke. I have 2 kids currently serving. There is much more to this job than just health care. What is your thoughts on spending, Afghanistan, Pakistain, Iran, Iraq and so forth?
John's answer:
I appreciate your question.  I have a sister that is currently a Major in the USAFR.  I have cousins that are flying for AF and cousins that are Marines/Army in Afghanistan/Iraq. I served in the USAFR & SD Air National Guard. I currently think this administration/congress (Dennis Moore) is spending way too much money without thoughts to our children/grandchildren.  I am concerned about the instability in Pakistan.  Iran has many issues that concern me as well.  Iraq needs to be stabilized, and I think that John McCain had better thoughts on it than did Barack Obama.  I think you are getting an idea into how I think, but I will be at a debate on Tuesday, the 24th, at KU in Lawrence at the Bob Dole Institute. Hopefully it will allow me a forum to answer some questions.

Question from Mary:
What was your occupation prior to running?
John's Answer:
Mary,
Great question.  I think that my background really is relevant to our current problems in Washington.  I have been in bio-tech/pharmaceutical sales for almost 20 years.  I recognize the issues that are facing our physicians and patients.  I have a unique insight as I have worked with many different types of specialists as well as family practice physicians. I am a problem solver, and I hope to bring these skill sets to Washington DC to work for YOU!  I have served in the Air National Guard & understand how important it is to salute these brave men & women.
